## What it does

A focused typing test. Pick a time goal (15, 30, 60 or 120 seconds) or a word goal (10 to 100 words), optionally add punctuation and numbers, then start typing. The timer starts on your first keystroke, every character is coloured as you go, and the result panel reports net and raw WPM, accuracy, consistency, character counts and total time. Everything runs on your device and nothing is uploaded.

## Questions

### How is WPM calculated?

Net WPM is correct characters divided by five, divided by the minutes elapsed. Five characters is the standard 'word'. Raw WPM uses every character you typed, correct or not, so the gap between the two numbers shows how much accuracy is costing you.

### What is consistency?

It is how steady your speed was, not how fast. The page samples raw WPM once per second and reports 1 minus the coefficient of variation as a percentage. A high number means an even pace; a low number means bursts and stalls.

### How does accuracy differ from the red characters?

The red characters show the current state of the text, so fixing a mistake turns a character back to normal. Accuracy is counted from keystrokes: every character you press is recorded, and a wrong press stays wrong even after you backspace and fix it. That is why a text with no red can still read below 100%.

### Why does the test not start until I type?

So the clock measures typing, not reading. Nothing happens until the first keystroke, and the word goal ends the moment you reach the last character. Press Enter after a finished test, or the Restart button, to go again with fresh words.
